Ocean Dreams Quilt

As promised! Pictures of my latest quilt. I'm calling it Ocean Dreams, because it is full of ocean themed fabrics, and is a totally dreamy color pallette.

I quilted it with some ocean waves, that echo off of each other to the center of the quilt. It turned out pretty cool looking, once it was washed and crinkly!

The whole quilt is based off of a Heather Ross spoonflower print, which is based on her old famous Mendocino fabric line. I just love the swimming sisters, one a mermaid, one a human girl:

I pieced the back with prints from the front. I especially love the gray whales. Some of the individual prints are from juvenile fabric lines, but the effect of the quilt in it's entirety is really all age appropriate.

If you're interested in buying this quilt, it's listed in my etsy shop :)

First show of 2013

Today was my first show of the year, and also only the second outdoor show I've ever done. We were lucky with good weather (especially given all the rain we've had in the past month), and it was nice to venture further away from my home city.

I was excited to sell a quilt today, the one you can see hanging in the right side of the picture was sold later in the day to a nice woman buying a gift for a new baby cousin. It's always nice to sell a quilt, because they are always so personal to me :)

And as always, I enjoyed chatting with customers and hearing feedback about my work.

Beachy sewing

Summertime is not the most predictable, but it sure is nice to have time with the girls doing whatever we want. Getting ice cream. Going to the beach. Watching movies.

And yeah, fitting in some sewing time too!

Remember that dreamy Princess and the Pea quilt I made last fall? I had used Heather Ross Spoonflower fabric, and enjoyed that whole process so much that I decided to do it again, with the Mermaid Sisters print.

There are, of course, many other ocean-inspired fabrics in the quilt, and the overall effect is wonderfully beachy. I finished the top last week and am quilting it right now! Finished quilt pictures to come soon, hopefully :)
