But what is it?

One of Lili's good good friends got a pet over the weekend. And inadvertantly, so did Lili.

She found a cute caterpillar in our backyard and made a home for it (out of a hummus container and a yogurt lid). She added some kind of geranium leaves. She even slept with it in her bed the first night. And it is surviving. It's actually pretty active right now, on day 4 of domesticated life. And it's pooping, so I will assume it is eating the leaves. But what is it? Are we feeding it the right things? What will it turn into?

I'm a little curious.

It looks like a Hickory Tussock Moth (obviously in the larva stage, so not technically a moth). If Lili has handled it and hasn't developed a rash, she should be good to go. Some people receive an irritation from this caterpillar (others don't). What fun!

Update on the 'pillar situation... Thank you Robyn for ID ing it, and sadly, it passed away yesterday. I think we were not feeding it properly, after all...
