Stonyfield Winner

Well it seems there were not sooo many of my readers who were interested in the Stonyfield giveaway, but enough to use the random number generator...

So the winner is.... Rachel! Which is totally awesome because then I do not have to ship it anywhere. It is entirely possible that she will use some of the contents in another giveaway, so go over to her blog in a few days to check it out!

i always wanted a kiddie pool, and a sprinkler, and now i have both! ah, childhood revisited...

Elusive Science of Sleep

Sleep is a hot commodity around here, and Lili doesn't seem to be able to get enough of it, at the right times of day.

If she naps, she doesn't fall asleep until 9:30 or 10pm. If she doesn't nap, she's a monster all afternoon and invariably melts down before we can get her into bed. Much of the issue comes from the current times of sunrise/set - there's just too much daylight for her little rhythms to handle. More issue comes from the fact that Mira wakes up early and so Lili doesn't get the chance to sleep in. Rather, she hears Mira is up and so would rather wake than get in that extra half hour.

It will settle out eventually (maybe in the fall, when the sun is more reasonable than 4:30am/8:40pm), but for now she's in a constant state of catch-up and over-fill.

So here she is, sacked out on the living room floor catching some of those extra zzzzz's.

note how the cat is holding sentry over her while she sleeps. too cute.

Oh and when it is 2:30 pm and both are sleeping? I'm totally not complaining. But when it's 8:30 at night and I still have to parent a not-asleep kid? Totally complaining. And when that not-asleep kid wakes the was-asleep baby? Completely complaining.

Future Speak

Lili: When I'm a grownup, I want to live in the same house as Mira*

Me: Mmmm that sounds nice

Lili: yeah... two mommies

Me: what do you mean?

Lili: two mommies for the child!

Me: you mean you and mira are going to be mommies to one kid?

Lili: Yup.

{Okay. That's good. I think. Easier for me to visit everyone, I guess!}

Lili: And when I'm a grownup I am going to paint ruffles on my house.

Me: What color?

Lili: Pink.

{Of course. It will be interesting to see how she paints ruffles, yes?}

* definitely banking this one for when they are teenagers and not loving living together...

Etsy.... addiction

I am in danger of an Etsy addiction.

I may have heard of Etsy awhile ago. I don't know. But it first came across my radar when we were given a onesie from a friend who Etsys (is that a verb? I dunno). Then again when it was discussed on Grosgrain. After that time I looked around for some handsewn dresses, just for fun. Didn't buy anything.

The intensity increases when my friend, T, opens up her own Etsy shop. I start browsing, and time on the computer starts to pass by really quickly. T, by the way, is an amazing graphic designer, stylist, etc, etc... I love her taste.

Then out of nowhere (Facebook? who knows where I stumbled upon it), releases their 50 top Etsy moms. And GO! They solved my one big Etsy problem: how to sort amongst the millions of items and crafters to get to the good stuff. And one seller in particular caught my eye... I have been wanting a necklace for awhile and lo and behold... The best combination of style, affordability, and variety. Oh the choices! So I clicked. And I ordered. And I eagerly await my little items from Homestudio!

Click if you dare. Their items are beyond cute.

Stonyfield Giveaway! - Closed.

Lili was a little sensitive to dairy as a baby. Being part asian, this was no big surprise to us. Thankfully she has outgrown the sensitivity, and Mira has had no issues with it, so we are now a dairy loving family. Since Mira started solids, she has had yogurt pretty much every day, and we are big fans of Stonyfield Organic Yogurt, especially the YoBaby line of yogurts.

This morning we were lucky enough to attend a Stonyfield yogurt playdate and the nice people at Stonyfield gave me an extra bag of goodies for a bloggy giveaway!

So, if you like yogurt, leave a comment below to enter this awesome giveaway! Contest closes at noon on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. I will select one random winner from the entries. Only one entry per person.

The winner will receive...
Stonyfield Recipe Cards
Healthy Makeovers Magnet

Why Eat Organic DVD
Stonyfield Baseball Cap

In that stage

Whereas Mira is finally learning to ham it up for the camera, Lili has lost all of her ability to perform and can no longer produce a decent smile for picture taking. I could call this parenting struggle #4238, but it's not really a struggle - I'm currently just finding it amusing.

Roll me up, buttercup

Lili's only been out of preschool for a few weeks, and though we love the freedom and nice weather that comes with summer vacation, I am finding that school provided a nice weekly routine as well as a good break (from each other) for me and Lili.

Mira has started having a more regular nap schedule, 2 naps a day, and so our mornings are spent at home now instead of out and about. Without school, and with some very early risers lately, we find ourselves doing some unconventional things to pass the time.

a lili cocoon, sushi roll, whatever. rinse, roll, repeat. over and over again.

yes, sledding. in june. lili is the sled dog. they both really enjoyed this one.

Any other ideas? We have a few more weeks of summer, you know...

And don't forget to enter the "Pay it Forward" game... I'll pick winners after June 30.

Messless Crafting

Those who know me well know that I am not so good with messes. They stress me out. But I like to craft and am trying to loosen up a little on the messes so that Lili can also enjoy crafting. It's a good time filler and she really enjoys it.

A favorite low mess craft around here involves coffee filters (that I took from a hotel) and washable markers. Draw on the filter with marker - more color the better, and then use a paintbrush with just water to paint the filter. It makes a beautiful water color tie dye pattern that you can then hang in the window for a pretty effect!

Pass it on...

Paying it Forward. It's a good concept. I helps us remember good things in life and spreading those good things around. As they say in Care-A-Lot, sweetness goes a long way if you're willing to share.

So it all started with C (well maybe not "all"), and L was so kind as to choose all her commenters as "winners" so here I am in the Pay it Forward chain. And I'm so glad to be because now I get the chance to find out what makes my readers happy and get/give a little bit of happiness in return.

But I'm going to mix it up a little. After almost a week of single parenting (with the help of my brother, sister in law, and niece), I'm thinking of the things I (try to) do to me a better person. And for me, the "better" involves more patience, more calmness, more understanding, less guilt. Appreciating the good little things and letting go of bad little things. It's work, and I'm working on it.

And I want to know how other people better themselves as well. So tell me how you better yourself (and therefore the world) and I will select three (3) people to receive a little reward from me...

Here's how it works:

1. You must comment on this post. The comment must include at least one method in which you better yourself.

2. If you are a winner, I ask that you pay-it-forward however you'd like: in-person, online, in writing, whatever...just commit to doing something nice for three people in the spirit of paying-it-forward. I will not check up on you (bettering myself #392: no nagging). However, if you don't intend to pay it forward, please don't play.

3. If selected to pay-it-forward, you must trust me enough to send me your address (I'll ask for it later - don't post it in the comments). If you don't trust me enough to send me your address, you'll just be the recipient of good vibes that I will mentally send your way. And an honorable mention in the blogosphere.

So, if you want to participate, then answer this question... What is something you do that makes you a better person?

Two posts in one

This post involves two separate stories that merged into one...

Story 1: Last weekend, we were in Montreal and visited the Insectarium that is in the Botanical garden. Lili was running on steam and so when my mom went to the snack shop I asked her to pick something out for Lili. She brought back yogurt (which Lili didn't want) and Salt and Vinegar flavored.... crickets. Lili promptly ate one but would not eat the rest of them.

What to do with these crickets?

Story 2: We were invited to a neighborhood friend's birthday party. Monster themed. No presents allowed! Well, I don't like to go to parties empty handed so I asked the kid what is the favorite flavor of cake? Chocolate. Frosting? Ginger. Weird combo, but OK! Coming right up a chocolate cake and ginger frosting (from scratch). And if you know me, you know I'm not a big fan of making themed cakes. For themed cakes I buy from the store. But in this case... genius!

Merged story... see the pictures!

Thoughts right now

Mira nurses like it is an Olympic sport. Very athletically. She doesn't stop moving.

Reaching the "cry it out" stage is hard. It is like a double edged sword through the heart. You get to that point because you're not getting enough sleep. But when you are sleep deprived already, listening to your kid scream it out for even 1 minute is brutal. 30 minutes is almost unbearable. We'll see how night two goes, but so far it doesn't seem to have left any permanent emotional damage. To Mira, anyway.

When did Lili turn into such a KID? No baby fat, no more baby in there. Must have happened in the last 6 months or so. I should pay more attention.

I now have a Macbook. But it runs Windows. That was a little bit of a surprise.

We love the UPS Man

Lili's Swim Teacher: "Lili, that's great swim stuff, where did you get it?"

Lili: "From the UPS Truck!"

The UPS Man... better than Santa?

Happy Birthday to Me!

You all know I love to bake. From scratch. Yummy things. Good things. Things you can name all the ingredients for.

But when it is MY birthday? Yeah... I go for the store-bought birthday cake with the "best creme" frosting that turns your tongue blue. And I love it.

*Disclaimer: it's not actually my birthday today, but I can have my cake and eat it too!
