Baby Gymnastics

When Lilian was a tiny baby, we used to do "baby gymnastics" with her, which consisted of moving her legs up, down, and around in order to try to get her to pass gas (so that she would be less uncomfortable). Fast forward a year and some months, and we get to some real gymnastics!

Just before Keith got home from work today, we had a fun time playing on the big bed. Lilian has been working on her "handstands", where she tries so hard to imitate the big kids she has seen doing real handstands. She also accomplished her first ever real somersault! She has been working up to this for months! Somersaults are a favorite activity to do with Puo Puo, and so for her to do one all by herself is such an accomplishment.

Enjoy the video!

with a cold

Poor Lilian is sick! She hasn't been sick for several weeks (it seems anyway), and so this one feels worse than it probably is... She woke several times last night, which is rough because she has been sleeping through the night for the past couple of weeks. She also has a mild fever, goobery nose, and no appetite. Something like the flu has been going around her playgroup friends, so I hope hope hope that's not it and that it's just a simple cold that will clear up before we get to Omi's next week!

She's in pretty good spirits anyway, so I can be thankful for that!

the first time is always the best

This weekend we did a big clothing purge, and went to the local 2nd hand clothes store to sell some of our things. I bought a few sweaters while we were there in hopes of making more pants for Lilian and her friends.

So, while Lili napped today, I made another pair of pants. I seem to have trouble with the rise length; the pants I have made don't seem to cover her cloth diapers very well. But, they're still cute, though not as awesome as the polka-dot pants.

All she needs is an eyepatch, and she'll be quite the buckaneer.

We love weekend playdates!

Weekend playdates are nice. It gives Keith some time to get out with out me feeling like he is abandoning Lili and I. So, while Keith went to Labrador to visit M, we baked muffins and had a fun playdate with A and his mom, J.

The muffins were a little bit of a disaster in terms of mess. They overflowed the pan, and since I decided I didn't want to grease the pan, they were also very hard to get out. As in, only 6 survived whole and unscathed. But they were delicious none the less!

When J arrived, A was sleeping soundly in the car. Something which, I'm told, never happens. Even more shocking, when she brought him in, laid him out on the floor, and took of his jacket, he remained peacefully snoring. Lilian was fascinated by the "baby" on the floor, and we let her go over to investigate. After laying some stuffed animals on him, she decided to see if she could wake him by pressing on his belly. She could not, so we went and had snack while A snoozed. He woke shortly and Lili and he had a blast dancing, squealing and trying their best to share toys.

Thanks J, for a fun morning reconnecting!

A new year in pictures

We were filing away the 2007 pictures on the computer last night, and it will never cease to amaze me how much a difference one year can make. Though, I suppose when one year is the equivalent of 65% of your life, then I guess that makes sense... Here are a couple of the best pictures from the bunch:

What a Mess

One whole kiwi fruit at breakfast = many messy diapers at dinner time.

Just thought you'd like to know!

Sticker Obsession

Lilian has a bit of a sticker obsession. She calls them "tick tick", and they always put her in a good mood. At the Sciencenter, she has to check, every 5 minutes, to make sure her admission sticker is still on. And that mine is still on. And that all the people within the vicinity all have stickers on. Moving stickers from paper to hand to belly to floor to paper is a fun distraction. I guess I will add stickers to her list of accessories (along with bracelets, purses, and necklaces).

Poor Sadie... And loud music

Oh Poor Sadie. This morning was her yearly checkup and booster shots at the vet. She had some kind of allergic reaction to the vaccinations (first time this ever happened!), and her face was like a swollen balloon by the time nap was over today. So, we rushed her back to the vet for a steroid injection, a benadryl injection, and a few hours of supervision. So that was 6 injections for poor Sadie in less than 8 hours. And 3 trips to the vet for June. And all of Lilian's free time that day spent at the vets office. Which she doesn't mind, because there are so many "Do" and "Meou" s to look at.

The rest of Lili's free time was spent playing with the stereo (because I just got the Green Day "American Idiot" CD), and which gave her the scare of her lifetime. She turned the stereo ALL THE WAY UP while it was not playing anything. And then she hit the radio button. I immediately ran over to the blaring thing, to shut it off, and Lili was sitting on the floor in front of it with a look of sheer terror on her face. A look I never want to see again. But, so far there doesn't seem to be any lasting damage...

Crafty Mommy

I bought a scarf/hat/mitten set for Lilian while we were in
Montreal this past week (thank you Gina!), and since I feel that
scarves for babies are kind of impractical, I decided to try to turn
the scarf into a pair of pants.

I did it! And it took less than 1 hour!

Here is the finished result, and the pants in action. Unfortuneately,
I forgot to take a "before" picture of the scarf, but you get the

I am such a crafty mommy, and very proud of myself that it worked out!

And mega bonus! I got so many great compliments on the pants the next day (because, of course, Lilian wore them all day the next day). And those were *before* they knew that I made them!
